Phuket Sea Kayak — Hong by Starlight (John Gray's Sea Canoe)
An evening run into Phang Nga Bay: your guide paddles you through tidal caves into hidden hongs, then you launch a krathong and watch the plankton light up.
Phuket, Thailand · 10h · ฿3,950 per adult · EN
It was all so well organised from start to finish. We cruised Phang Nga Bay and did mini excursions by canoe into secret lagoons.
What is this tour like?
Hong by Starlight is John Gray's Sea Canoe's signature evening run into Phang Nga Bay. A motor escort boat carries you and the kayaks out; from there you go through tidal caves into the hongs, the hidden lagoons that open inside the limestone islands. You do not have to paddle — your guide does that.
After dark the trip changes character: you launch a krathong of your own and watch bioluminescent plankton light up around the hull. The company has worked this water since 1983 and took the SKAL Ecotourism Award in 2008. Ten hours door to door, with national park fees already in the price.
