A first dive is the one product in Nha Trang that almost every operator sells and almost none describes properly. You are not learning to dive: you are being taken down to a shallow reef by an instructor who holds the tank, checks the gauge and brings you back. The published prices run from 55 to 95 US dollars, and the gap between them is not the reef — it is how many other beginners are in the water with you.
Here is what the operators of Nha Trang charge, what the dive physically looks like from the moment the minibus stops at your hotel, and where the limits are.
No certificate needed. A first dive in Nha Trang costs 55–95 USD, goes to a maximum of 12 metres, lasts 30–50 minutes under water and is normally sold with two dives, a boat, lunch and hotel pick-up in the same price.

The cheapest and the most expensive entries are different products. The 55-USD trip is one dive in a shared group; the 95-USD one is two dives of 35 to 40 minutes with no more than two guests on one instructor. If you are nervous about the mask, that ratio is what you are buying.
What actually happens, step by step
The day is the same across the operators who publish it.
07:00–07:30 — pick-up. divenhatrang.ru collects from the hotel between seven and half past and boards at the pier at eight. VictorDivePro includes the hotel transfer within the city limits; from hotels further out it is arranged separately.
On the boat — briefing and gear check. VictorDivePro lists a briefing in Russian, a personal set of equipment and an equipment check as separate items in the price. Nobody hands you a tank and points at the sea.
In shallow water — three skills. Sailing Club Divers, which runs the PADI version of the programme, names them: clearing the mask, recovering the regulator, and buoyancy. That is the whole syllabus of a try dive. Ten minutes, standing on sand.
The dive itself. 30 to 50 minutes at divenhatrang.ru, 35 to 40 at VictorDivePro, to a maximum of 12 metres. The instructor stays within arm's reach the entire time.
Surface interval and lunch. Both Russian-run centres serve breakfast and lunch on board; divenhatrang.ru runs a two-deck boat with tea, coffee and fruit.
Around 13:00 — back. divenhatrang.ru returns about one o'clock, Vietnam Fantastic ends the trip at 13:30.
How deep do they take you?
Twelve metres, and that number is the same at both operators who publish it: VictorDivePro states a maximum of 12 metres for a beginner, and the PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme at Sailing Club Divers is limited to the same depth. It is not an operator preference; it is the ceiling of the format.
Twelve metres is enough for everything you came to see in this bay. The coral of Hon Mun and Dam Bay sits shallow, and the light at that depth still has colour in it.
Do I have to be able to swim?
Sailing Club Divers answers it in one line on its beginner page: «Not a swimmer? No problem.» VictorDivePro puts it as «no experience and no certificate required». What both do require is that you are in reasonable physical health — and that is checked, not assumed.
Who is not taken down?
divenhatrang.ru is the most explicit: no pregnant women, no one with heart disease, no alcohol before the dive, no flying for 24 hours afterwards, and a medical questionnaire is compulsory. Vietnam Fantastic states the same two exclusions — pregnancy and cardiovascular conditions — and asks for 12 to 18 hours between the dive and a flight.
The two flight numbers disagree, so plan by the stricter one and keep a full day between your last dive and the airport.
One dive or two?
Two, if the budget stretches. At Vietnam Fantastic the second dive costs 20 USD more — 75 instead of 55 — and the first dive of a beginner is largely spent getting used to breathing. The second one is the dive you remember. Most of the Russian-run centres do not even sell a single dive: divenhatrang.ru and VictorDivePro price the day as two dives from the start.
Common questions
Will there be photos?
Sometimes inside the price, sometimes not. AKSENOV Scuba Diving includes underwater filming and editing in its 90-USD try dive, in both horizontal and vertical formats. divenhatrang.ru lists photo and video as not included. Russian Divers Team sells a version with content for 120 USD instead of 90.
Is the transfer included?
Within the city, yes, at VictorDivePro, AKSENOV and divenhatrang.ru. Vietnam Fantastic picks up in downtown Nha Trang only. If your hotel is out towards Cam Ranh, say so when you book.
Can a child do it?
From six years at Vietnam Fantastic, from eight at divenhatrang.ru, from ten at VictorDivePro. The differences are real, not rounding.
What if the sea is rough?
Vietnam Fantastic writes that the trip changes from Mun Island to the nearer coral reef when the weather turns. A beginner dive is a sheltered-water product anyway, so the swap costs you scenery rather than the day.
Can I dive more than once in a day?
Up to three times, according to AKSENOV Scuba Diving, which states a maximum of three dives per day. For a first-timer, two is the sensible number.
