Valencia has two wind-sport schools and five disciplines between them: kitesurf with Kitezone at €390 per person, and windsurf, wingfoil, surf and SUP with Ocean Republik from €50 per person. Below: where each one teaches, what separates the sports, how long the courses actually run and what the price already covers.
Where in Valencia are these taught?
Ocean Republik has a fixed address: the Marina de València, on the Malvarrosa side, a few steps from the beach. About fifteen minutes by car from the city centre and twenty-one from Valencia airport. You get a briefing on land and then walk straight into the water.
Kitezone works differently. The school runs along the Valencia coast and picks the spot by the wind on the day, so the exact beach is confirmed with your booking rather than fixed in advance. It has been teaching here for more than twenty years.
What actually separates kite, wing and windsurf?
The clearest answer is in what each school hands you, because the kit is the sport. Compare the two lists side by side and the difference stops being abstract.
Kitesurf: the power is on lines above you
Kitezone provides a kite, a bar, a board, a wetsuit, a harness, a vest and a helmet with a radio. Two items on that list tell the story: the bar, because you steer a kite flying on lines well above your head, and the radio helmet, because your instructor keeps talking to you while you are far from the beach.
Windsurf: the power is bolted to the board
Ocean Republik provides a board and rig plus a wetsuit. "Rig" is the sail, the mast and the boom, and it is attached to the board you stand on. Nothing flies above you and nothing needs a launch area on the sand, which is why the school can teach a few steps from the marina beach.
Wing and foil: taught here, but priced case by case
Ocean Republik lists wingfoil alongside windsurf, surf and SUP, and Kitezone offers wingfoil alongside its advanced courses. Ask for the wingfoil price separately rather than reading it across from the windsurf class or the kite course.
How many hours before you ride on your own?
The kitesurf course answers this most directly. Ten hours, spread over several sessions rather than one long day, and the school's own progression runs theory and safety, then kite control and body-dragging, then your first rides on the board, then sessions aimed at riding on your own.
The windsurf side is built the other way round: two hours as one class, with individual or small-group options and intensive courses available if you keep going. There is no fixed number of lessons that makes you independent in the wind sports — how much of any session you spend riding is decided by the wind.
If the forecast kills your window entirely, there is a foil that does not need wind at all: HOKUA's wakesurf, wakeboard and wakefoil class at €50 per person, two hours behind a Mastercraft wake boat, three rounds of about seven minutes each.

Read the price with the unit next to it. Both figures here are per person, but one covers a single class and the other a whole ten-hour course, which is what makes them look further apart than they are.

Per hour the gap narrows sharply. €390 for ten hours is €39 an hour with all the kit provided; €50 for a two-hour class is €25 an hour. The kite course costs more per hour and buys a smaller group — two students against four.
What do you need to bring?
Very little, and the same little at both schools: swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and water. Kitezone provides the kite, bar, board, wetsuit, harness, vest and radio helmet. Ocean Republik provides the board and rig or gear plus the wetsuit. Both include a certified instructor and insurance.
The same three items sit outside both prices:

What does the wind decide, and who can join?
Important
Sessions depend on wind at both schools, and both may move a date for safety. Kitezone says it plainly: because the course runs across several sessions, the timings flex with conditions. Ocean Republik reschedules the same way and lets you move your date or arrange a refund.
The two schools ask almost the same of a student. Kitezone asks for basic fitness and confident swimming, no prior kite experience. Ocean Republik teaches all ages and levels on the same condition — confident swimming and basic fitness. For a child, tell us the age and the instructor confirms the fit.
