Gran Canaria has a reputation for wind, and it is deserved: the trade wind runs down the east coast, and Pozo Izquierdo is the name that comes with it — the stretch where the island's competition windsurfing happens. That is where the wingfoil course runs: Pozowinds sells five two-hour lessons for €198 per person, equipment from Duotone, Armstrong, Core and KT included, and the voucher is valid for two years.
The first kite lesson runs elsewhere. Pro Surfing teaches on the Maspalomas coast in the south, where the water is calmer, and the spot is chosen on the day according to where the wind is working.
Pozo comes with one honest caveat from its reviews. A two-star review says the spot is fantastic for people who already know windsurfing or foiling and hard for a complete beginner; a five-star review from a parent with two daughters describes flat, windy water where they were foiling by the second class. The centre also uses the calmer Bahía de Formas nearby.
Two hours will not get you riding on your own. €145 buys one-to-one theory, safety, kite control on the beach and a first contact with the water; the spot is chosen by the instructor on the day, by the wind.
What does €145 buy?
The two-hour private lesson with the Pro Surfing Company is €145 per person, one learner to one IKO-certified instructor. The price is listed down from €180 and covers the complete material and mineral water, extensive insurance cover, video and theory classes, and a round-trip transfer to your accommodation in the southern zone. The school itself is at the Eurocenter in Maspalomas.

The second one is per booking rather than per person, so a couple staying further along the coast pays it once between them, not twice.
What do two hours actually achieve?
Not independent riding, and the school does not claim otherwise. Two hours one-to-one cover the theory, the safety systems, kite handling on the beach and the first contact with the water, with an instructor whose attention is entirely on you. Because it is a private lesson, the €145 is what a single learner pays: two people learning together are two bookings, not a shared rate.
What comes next is a matter of wind hours rather than lesson length. People who intend to keep going book consecutive days, because a second session on a windy afternoon does more than a longer single one on a light day.
Why the spot is not fixed
The instructor picks the beach on the day. That is standard for a wind sport and it is also the school's insurance against a wasted lesson: instead of a fixed address, you get a meeting point confirmed once the conditions for that morning are known. If a day cannot be taught safely at all, the lesson is rearranged with the school — ask us to get the terms attached to your date in writing before you pay.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
The school sets no swimming standard, but the lesson includes time in the water with a kite, so comfort in the sea matters. Tell us about any concerns and we will put the question to the instructor before booking.
Is there a group option?
The lesson is private and sold for one participant. If you are travelling as a pair, book two — you will be taught side by side but each with your own instructor time. A different format exists on the other coast: the Pozowinds wingfoil course is a pack of five two-hour lessons for €198 per person, and the voucher is valid for two years.
What else is on that coast?
