Phuket Sea Kayak — Hong by Starlight (John Gray's Sea Canoe)
It was all so well organised from start to finish. We cruised Phang Nga Bay and did mini excursions by canoe into secret lagoons.
3 options for sea kayak & canoe in Phuket — real operator prices, routes and guest reviews, all in one place.
Sea kayaking from Phuket starts at ฿1,000 per adult for THINN's two-and-a-half-hour mangrove trip at Tha Maphrao, with a child rate of ฿750 for ages 4 to 12.
The two full days into Phang Nga Bay are ฿3,950 per adult: Andaman Sea Kayak's daylight run, where a child aged 4–12 is ฿1,975 and the national park fee and transfer are included, and John Gray's “Hong by Starlight”, ten hours door to door with park fees in the price.
On both bay trips the guide does the paddling.
An evening run into Phang Nga Bay: your guide paddles you through tidal caves into hidden hongs, then you launch a krathong and watch the plankton light up.
Two and a half hours in the mangrove channels of Phuket's own east coast, launched at the tide window that opens the narrow tunnels — no boat transfer, no national park, no day lost.
A daytime run out of Ao Por into Phang Nga Bay: an escort boat carries the canoes, a guide paddles you through the caves of Panak and into the Hong Island lagoon, buffet lunch on board.

From the hotel pickup to the whole day, we were very pleased with our choice. It became one of the major highlights of the trip.
My 15-year-old son and I enjoyed a magical morning kayaking in and around the mangrove forest. The owner and guide expertly and safely led us on a suitably challenging route.
Amazing experience! Kayaks are brand new. Even though the guides are not fluent in English, simple words and hand gestures are more than enough to have a good time.
On both Phang Nga Bay trips a motor escort boat carries you and the canoes out, and from there the guide does the work. Andaman Sea Kayak's full day uses three-seat inflatable canoes: the guide sits at the back, two guests sit in front. That is why no experience is needed and why the trips work with children from four. On THINN’s mangrove trip at Tha Maphrao you paddle yourself.
The daylight bay trip is ฿3,950 per adult and ฿1,975 per child aged 4–12: pickup 09:00–10:30, boarding at Ao Por pier around 11:00, caves of 20 to 150 metres at Panak Island, a buffet lunch on board and the Hong Island lagoon around 15:30.
Hong by Starlight is the evening version at ฿3,950 per adult, ten hours door to door, finishing with a krathong and bioluminescent plankton after dark. THINN's mangrove trip is the short one: two and a half hours on Phuket's own east coast from ฿1,000.
No. The bay is the marine national park of the neighbouring province, about an hour away by boat, which is why those days run ten hours or more. The mangrove trip stays on Phuket and needs no crossing.
Important
the bay days carry a national park fee — already inside the price on both of them, while the mangrove trip has none.
THINN sets departures against the tide forecast rather than a fixed timetable, because the narrow mangrove channels only exist at certain water levels — so some dates open and others do not. It runs no hotel transfer: guests come to Tha Maphrao in Thalang themselves, where parking is free.
Andaman Sea Kayak includes a free transfer from anywhere on Phuket. The bay is screened from the west, so these days hold up in the May–October monsoon better than the open-sea crossings.
