The short version

The Similan day is the only trip here with a season: that national park opens about 15 October and closes about 15 May, while Racha Yai and Phi Phi are dived all year. Above that entry price the other trips run like this:

  • ฿3,900 — three dives at the Phi Phi Islands and Shark Point on the operator's own 25-metre boat, with a ฿600 marine park fee paid in cash on board.
  • ฿4,900 — the Similan Islands day, two dives, plus a ฿700 park fee and equipment rental.
  • from ฿5,900 — a try dive without a certificate: two dives in the sea with an instructor beside you, equipment, transfers and food included, from age ten.

Good to know

  • This is a diving trip and certification is required. If you would rather snorkel the Similans, that day trip starts at ฿3,490 with park fees included.
  • Two dives a day for certified divers: this is a dive trip, not a course, and there is no Discover Scuba on board. Bring your certification card.
  • Budget ฿700 in cash for the park fee — it is collected on the day.
  • Certified divers only — bring your card. Non-divers can join as snorkellers for ฿2,600.
  • Local rules do not allow first-time divers at the Phi Phi sites; the dives are in open water where entries and exits can be harder than at the sheltered Racha bays.
  • ฿600 in cash for the marine park fee, reef-friendly sun cream, and your certification card.
  • Hotel pickup on Phuket; boat departs Thap Lamu pier, Phang Nga. Thap Lamu pier is in Khao Lak, not on Phuket — about 1.5–2 hours by road (roughly 97 minutes from Kamala, 103 from Phuket Town, 109 from Patong, 120 from Kata), then around 90 minutes by boat to the park.
  • Free hotel pickup in Patong, Karon, Kata, Kamala and Chalong from 07:00; the boat leaves Chalong pier at 08:30. Chalong pier is on Phuket, but the dive sites are not — the Phi Phi Islands belong to Krabi province, two and a half to three hours away by boat. The operator's two centres are at 153/4 Rat Uthit Song Roi Pi Rd in Patong and 88/32 Patak Road in Chalong.
  • Free hotel transfer between 07:00 and 08:00 from Chalong, Kamala, Kata, Karon, Nai Harn, Patong and Rawai; other areas carry a small surcharge, quoted on request. The boat leaves Chalong pier at 08:30. Racha Yai is an island about ninety minutes south of Phuket, not part of it. The dive centre is at 363/10 Patak Road, Karon Beach.
  • Free hotel pickup from Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata, Nai Harn, Rawai and Chalong, with published times from 07:15 (Mai Khao) to 08:20 (Rawai and Nai Harn); other areas carry a fee quoted on request. You are taken first to the dive centre at 1/3 Moo 9 Wiset Road, Chalong, and board there. The dives themselves are at Racha Yai, Racha Noi or the Phi Phi Islands — islands away from Phuket, not sites on the island itself.

Similan Islands Diving Day Trip from Phuket

Had an amazing diving experience with Sayeed. We did three dives and each one was incredible. He was extremely attentive throughout, always making sure we were comfortable and safe, and pointed out so many things underwater that we would have missed on our own.

Similan Islands Diving Day Trip from Phuket

I booked the advanced open water diver and had a great experience. Jon was a great instructor who gave good advice and took care of me at all times. Felt really safe. The dive sites were cool — I saw a sea turtle, reef sharks, multiple wrecks and lots of other stuff.

I just finished a three-day SSI training with Alex at Sunrise Divers and it was an amazing experience. He is a very experienced instructor and a friendly guy. If you want someone you can trust and feel safe and comfortable with, he is the guy.

Phi Phi Islands Diving Day Trip from Phuket — Three Dives

I recently had an amazing diving experience with All4Diving in Phuket. Even though we hit bad weather and murky water with low visibility, Ito made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. His teaching style is detailed, patient and deeply responsible — he went over every safety protocol and skill before we got into the water.

FAQ

Is this a dive trip for certified divers or a beginner course?
Both, but on different boats. The Similan boat takes certified divers only — two dives per day in the national park or at Koh Bon depending on the day, with no Discover Scuba on board. The beginner day is the try dive from ฿5,900: two dives in the sea with an instructor beside you, equipment included, from age ten.
When can we dive — is it open year-round?
Racha Yai and Phi Phi are dived all year. Only the Similan National Park has a season, 15 October to 15 May, and that boat closes May through October for monsoon safety. On Sundays and Wednesdays when the park is open, it runs to Koh Bon instead, the site known for manta ray sightings; Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday hit the Similan Islands themselves.
What is the cost breakdown — what is in the price and what is extra?
฿4,900 per person covers the boat, two dives, breakfast and lunch on board. The ฿700 national park fee is cash, payable on the day. Equipment rental is ฿150–500 per item if you do not bring your own — most divers bring mask and fins. Free transfers from Patong, Karon, Kata and south Khao Lak are included.
Is it a long day? When is pickup?
Twelve and a half hours from start to finish. Pickup from Patong, Karon or Kata is 06:00–06:30; from south Khao Lak at 07:45. The speedboat departs Thap Lamu at 08:30 and returns around 18:30. Bring an appetite — the boat serves light breakfast on the way out, lunch between dives.

Which day trip should you take?

Three of the four run all year; only the Similan day has a season.

What is the Similan day?

The Similan Islands day trip is a dive expedition for certified divers, from ฿4,900 per person including the boat, two dives and all meals on board. The Similan National Park runs only 15 October to 15 May; the boat stops for the monsoon. On Sundays and Wednesdays it goes to Koh Bon, known for manta rays; the other five days go to the Similan Islands themselves.

What does the ฿4,900 include?

Transport from Patong, Karon, Kata and south Khao Lak, the speedboat and captain, two full dives, breakfast, lunch, soft drinks and snacks. Equipment rental is extra: ฿150–500 per item. Most divers bring at least a mask and fins and rent the rest on the boat.

Important

the ฿700 national park fee is cash, paid on the boat — budget for it separately.

Where do you dive that day?

Similan Islands (Mon–Tue, Thu–Sat): coral formations, soft corals, kelp gardens and the granite boulders the islands are named for, with varied fish life. Koh Bon (Sun and Wed): known for manta ray encounters when the plankton is thick, and used for rescue training, because the site drops away into open blue water.

How long is the day?

Twelve and a half hours in all: pickup between 06:00 and 06:30 (07:45 from south Khao Lak), the speedboat leaves at 08:30 and you are back at the hotel by 18:30. The first dive is around 10:00, the second around 13:00 after lunch on board. Come rested.
