FAQ

Do I need a certificate to dive here?
No. All seven Tenerife sessions are a first dive or an introduction, run under the supervision of an instructor. If you only want to look from the surface, the €45 boat snorkelling asks for nothing but confident swimming.
Is the price per person or per group?
It is the price of one session. None of the three centres states a unit on its price page, so confirm whether that session covers one diver or more when you book — particularly if you are two people asking for one instructor.
Is equipment included?
Diving Atlantis prices kit separately at €7.50 per dive, with insurance at €10 a day and transfer at €5. BIG FISH does not itemise its list at all. Ocean Trek describes the session — briefing, shallow-water skills, dive — without naming kit. Ask the centre before you pay.
From what age can children dive?
None of the three centres publishes a minimum age, so it has to be asked. Families do go: a family of five did the Atlantis beach try dive together. Do not assume a number — the centre will tell you what it accepts.
Is it cheaper to book online?
At two of the three. BIG FISH gives 10% off online bookings. Diving Atlantis prints a lower online figure next to each list price — €94.50 instead of €105, €103.50 instead of €115, €121.50 instead of €135. Ocean Trek publishes one price.
What happens if the sea is rough?
None of the three centres publishes what happens when it cancels for conditions, so ask for the terms in writing before you pay. Confirm the day before, and keep a spare day if your trip is short.

Diving in Tenerife: choosing between three centres

Try dive or Discover Scuba — what is the difference?

Two of the centres sell both. A try dive is the short version: a briefing and a supervised dive. The PADI-recognised Discover Scuba programme adds theory and more skills in the sea before you go down. At Ocean Trek that is €90 for about three hours against €120 for about four, with a dive of roughly 45 minutes. At Diving Atlantis it is €115 against €135 from the boat.

Do you enter from the beach or from the boat?

Diving Atlantis prices the two entries separately: €105 from the beach, €115 from the boat, both forty minutes. A beach entry means walking in; a boat entry means getting into open water from a deck, which is worth knowing if you are nervous. Online those become €94.50 and €103.50.

What is paid on top?

Ocean Trek spells the session out: a briefing, a shallow-water training session and a dive. At BIG FISH and Diving Atlantis, ask the centre what the session covers when you book.

Important

at Atlantis the kit (€7.50 a dive), the insurance (€10 a day) and the transfer (€5) are charged on top of the session.

In which language will you be taught?

All three teach in English and Spanish. Ocean Trek adds German; Diving Atlantis adds Russian. If you want your first breath under water explained in your own language, choose the centre by language.
